ΠΕΡΘ ΑΜΠΟΪ. Την επέτειο της Ανεξαρτησίας τίμησε την Κυριακή 25 Μαρτίου το Ελληνικό Σχολείο της κοινότητας του Αγ. Δημητρίου στο Περθ Αμπόι Νέας Ιερσέης.

Οι μαθητές απήγγειλαν ποιήματα, τραγούδησαν και χόρεψαν προσφέροντας χαρά, συγκίνηση και υπερηφάνεια στην κατάμεστη αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων.

Η δικαστής Μαρίνα Κοροδήμου, πρόεδρος του εκκλησιαστικού συμβουλίου, συνεχάρη τους μαθητές οι οποίοι, όπως τόνισε, συνεχίζουν επάξια την λαμπρή παράδοση και ιστορία της πατρίδας.

Η δασκάλα των Ελληνικών, Αλεξάνδρα Βελμάχου, ευχήθηκε χρόνια πολλά στην Ομογένεια για την διπλή γιορτή του Ελληνισμού και της Ορθοδοξίας και καλή πρόοδο σε όλα τα Ελληνικά σχολεία.

Η δήμαρχος του Περθ Αμπόι, Wilda Diaz, που παρακολούθησε την εκδήλωση εξήρε το έργο και την προσφορά του Ελληνισμού.

“Νιώθουμε πολύ υπερήφανοι” τόνισε, “για τους συμπολίτες μας τους Ελληνες που ζουν και εργάζονται  στην πόλη μας. Η προσφορά τους για πάνω από έναν αιώνα είναι ανεκτίμητη.

Στηρίζω με όλες μου τις δυνάμεις την εκκλησία του Αγ. Δημητρίου όσο και τα μελλοντικά τους σχέδια για την επέκταση στο γύρω χώρο.”

On Friday, March 9th, the third meeting of the Salutations to the Most Holy Theotokos was held at St. Demetrios in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

Father Petros Souritzidis, who performed the service, due to the absence of Fr. George Parsenios, wished to the Greeks Abroad, through the “National Herald”, a good rest of the Forty, a good and bright Easter, with the Resurrection of the Lord illuminating souls of all.

Judge Marina Corodemus, president of the parish council, pointed out that March has three very important celebrations for all Hellenism. “First,” she said, “we keep the great fast that prepares us spiritually and for Holy Easter. Secondly, we celebrate the Annunciation of the Virgin, the joyous news of Christianity, the imminent birth of Jesus Christ. Thirdly, we honor the Revolution of 1821 and the liberation of Greece from the Turkish yoke.”

The protopsaltes of the church, Stavros Tsapatsaris, wished to the readers and co-workers of the newspaper health, joy and spiritual peace.

Lambros Simatos, a member of the community for 40 years, spoke about the history of the church of St. Dimitriou, who, as he said, has been doing a very important spiritual, social and charitable work for 101 years.

Stamatis Souravlas, a member of the community for many decades, has invited the Hellenes to visit the church to admire the recent exceptional hagiography of the temple.

Finally, Argyro Achladianakis, who serves the church for 45 years in all programs, Greek School, Philoptochos, Choir, Parents’ Association, Youth Departments, expressed her love and gratitude for all that the community has provided. “I grew up here,” she said, “my two boys, Nicholas and Constantine, and I am very happy and proud of the Greek Orthodox values ​​and ideals that have been taught.”

Starting On or About Feb. 15, 2018 A Portion of Sadowski Parkway Will Be Temporarily Closed to Traffic.

On or about Feb. 15, a portion of Sadowski Parkway will be closed for approximately two months from Wisteria Street to Linden Street.
The closure is associated with ongoing remediation work being conducted by Elizabethtown Gas at a former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) site between Linden and Wisteria streets on Sadowski Parkway. The road will be repaved when the work is completed.

Elizabethtown Gas began environmental remediation activities at the MGP site in June. The entire project is expected to be completed in Spring 2018.

In consultation with the Perth Amboy police department, Elizabethtown Gas will post warning signs on: High Street at Lewis Street, Lewis Street at Madison Avenue, and Sadowski Parkway at Brighton Avenue.

As St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy, NJ, celebrated their 100th anniversary, the church proved that their commitment to supporting missions is stronger than ever. They have decided to dedicate the year to prayerfully supporting Albania. Each year, the parish selects a project or ministry to support, and working with their Philoptochos and Sunday School, they have reached out to the Orthodox Church in Albania with friendship and love.

In 2014, St. Demetrios Parish President Ret. Judge Marina Corodemus and Philoptochos President Stella Wacker participated in an Orthodox Clergy Wives and Women’s Retreat in Albania that forever changed their lives and perception of the Orthodox family throughout the world. Ever since that fateful mission trip, the women have prayerfully sought to renew their dedication to missions throughout their parish.

As a result, for St. Demetrios’ 100th anniversary the church dedicated itself to Albania in many wonderful ways: Christmas gifts, shoes, and coats for Albanian children, fundraising $8,000 to assist the Special Needs Residential Center for Children with 40 new wooden beds to complement the new tables they donated for the dining rooms last year.

In the past, St. Demetrios has helped the Albanian American Protagonist School and the Orthodox Children’s Home of Hope at Shen Vlash with musical instruments, along with the Special Needs Residential Center for Children with computer equipment, warm coats, and backpacks, and the Orthodox Children’s Home of Hope with Christmas presents, warm coats, and backpacks, among other things.
